The Technology Learning Centre program is looking for volunteer technology tutors ages 18+. Tech tutors work one-to-one with seniors in the Oceanside community to help them gain greater confidence and knowledge with computer technology and help them alleviate isolation. We assist people with desktop, laptop, and mobile devices online via video conference and in person as changing health guidelines allow.

The benefits of volunteering as a tech tutor for the TLC program are:

  • Engaging in a technology user community for retired/experienced IT professionals and keeping instructional and interpersonal skills sharp.
  • Younger computer/IT students can practically apply their learning and contribute to their own CV for future work in the industry.
  • Enthusiastic computer hobbyists can help others and learn more about computer hardware/software for themselves.

All individual tutoring sessions are approx. 90 minutes in length, and we are looking for volunteers that can be available for at least one tech tutor session per week. Tech tutor sessions occur on Tuesdays and Thursdays of each week. The TLC classroom is located within Family Place in Parksville at 494 Bay Avenue.

“Since retiring from the workplace, TLC has become an important part of  my daily life. You offer continual learning opportunities enabling me to have success with my computer. Also I do not have to depend on my husband for the answer to a computer question; this results in a happier marriage! ”   ~Quote from TLC  Participant
